Overview

This tool reads QR codes and 2D barcodes contained in image files or shown within the camera view using processing that runs entirely inside the browser. The uploaded image, camera video, and the contents of the scanned QR code are not sent to the server, so you can use it safely.

Even if a single image contains multiple QR codes, the tool can read them together and let you review the results in a list. Results that include a URL can be opened directly as links.

Have you ever had this problem?

“How am I supposed to read the QR code inside an image...?”

A QR code attached to an email, or a screenshot image sent by a friend. When you actually try to read it, have you ever been frustrated because your smartphone gallery app did not support it, or because you were on a computer and did not have a scanning app installed?

This tool is a browser-based QR code reader for exactly those situations, letting you check the contents right away just by uploading an image. No troublesome app installation is required at all, and you can use it easily from either a PC or a smartphone.

Useful in situations like these

  • Working on a PC: When you want to check the destination link or contents from a screenshot of a QR code shown on the screen or from a saved QR code image.
  • On a smartphone or in chat: When you want to open a QR code image received by email or on social media without installing a dedicated QR code app.
  • When you want to process them all at once: When you want to check multiple QR codes shown together on flyers, information boards, social media posts, and more.

How to use it (read from an image)

  1. On the “Read from image” tab, select an image that contains a QR code or drag and drop it.
  2. When the image preview appears, scanning starts automatically and detects all QR codes in the image, including multiple codes in a single image.
  3. Check the scan results, and use Copy or “View results” to display them in a list when needed.

How to use it (scan with camera)

  1. Open the “Scan with camera” tab and press “Start camera”.
  2. Allow the browser to use the camera, then align the QR code you want to read with the center of the guide frame.
  3. When the scan succeeds, the result is displayed. After checking the content, stop the camera if needed.

Limitations and notes

  • Image quality: Scanning accuracy may decrease for images with QR codes that are too small, have strong reflections, are out of focus, or are tilted at an extreme angle.
  • How to frame the camera: When scanning with the camera, make sure only the QR code you want to read is inside the frame so that unintended QR codes are not picked up.
  • Multiple cameras: If your device has multiple cameras, a selector for choosing the camera to use will be shown.
  • Preview display: The preview after image scanning is cropped into an easy-to-view square based on the detected position. The original image itself is not being altered.
